“Let’s take the laptop!”, she exclaimed. “O.K. , That’s fine.” he said.

STOP!???? ????? WAIT!???????? ?HOLD-UP!

Easier said than done! A lap top is an expensive travel companion; it contains private and personal data; and is easily lost, stolen, or damaged.? Here are a few tips for keeping your electronic little friend safe and more travel-ready:

1.?? TWEAK YOUR GEAR

Many lap tops have detachable drives (DVD-CD) or different size batteries with varying battery life.? This may make it smaller, lighter, more portable, and/or more functional?depending on your needs.

Costly canvas kiss

Oct-31-2007 By Otto

Costly canvas kiss

A Cambodian-born French woman, Sam Rindy,?who left a smudge of lipstick on a white canvas painting she is suspected of kissing, faces criminal prosecution. The woman, who is herself a painter, stands accused of “damage to a work of art”, by kissing it and leaving her lipstick on an otherwise bone white canvas. The painting, valued at $2.7 million, was on exhibit at Avignon’s ‘Collection Lambert‘?contemporary art museum. It was painted by American artist Cy Twombly. Twombly is known for abstract paintings that combine elements such as different painting and drawing techniques, with the use of repetitive lines, graffiti, letters and words.

Montreal Botanical Garden

Oct-27-2007 By Otto

The Jardin Botanique de Montr?al happily resides in one of the most lush areas of North America. It was founded in 1936 by one of Canada’s premier botanists, Fr??re Marie-Victorin and houses over 100,000 specimens representing 20,000 species. Second in size only to Kew Gardens in London, it is easily a rival for New York’s famed institutions.

There are nine public greenhouses and over 20 others that house research and maintenance plants from the world over. There are here some of the rarest medicinal herbs in the world, lovingly cared for by the Jardin’s gardeners. Associated with The Botanical Institute of the University of Montreal, it has the expertise and interest that has helped create one of the world’s finest botanical treasures.

Vermont in Wikipedia

Oct-26-2007 By Otto

If you are not familiar with Wikipedia , you really should take a look at it. There you will find an amazing compendium of information about people, places, and things. Very few times have I searched for something and not found a good, to-the-point essay on the topic.

Like every state, Vermont has a section. If you are traveling to Vermont and want to know some history and current information, this is the best place to get it quickly.

Self-confessed fibber Thomas Kohnstamm is certainly taking his best shot at it.

Do LP Writers Go To Hell? Thomas Kohnstamm Might.

LP writer Thomas Kohnstamm…in hell.

I’ve always been a big fan of Lonely Planet’s guidebooks.

Beaches on Skiathos

Oct-24-2007 By Otto

My favourite beach so far is Lalaria Beach on Skiathos in the Greek Sporades Island. Lalaria consists of white pebbles and limestone and is only approachable by boat because of the high cliffs on both sides of the beach. A rock to the west of the bay forms a natural bridge between the sea and the beach.

Another peaceful beach is Agios Elenis located on the southern part of the island. Paraskevi and Kolios are shallow and suitable for children. The busiest beaches are Vromolimnos beach, 8 km from Skiathos town, and Koukounaries, once rated the 7th best beach in the world. A five minutes walk south from bus stop 26 leads to Koukounaries. But make sure to check the signs. We were about to take the wrong path leading to Little Banana Beach, west of Koukounaries, a popular beach among naturists from all over Europe.

Handup Or Handout? The Case Against Micro-Loans

This article is in response to a previous BNT post entitled ???Why we need micro-loans instead of slum tourism.???

I want to urge caution in what has become a widespread and unqualified enthusiasm for the whole micro-finance thing. Since Yunus won the Nobel Prize, people have been afraid to criticize the idea of micro-finance.
