World Tourism Day
As some of you who are on holiday may already know, today is World Tourism Day, celebrated on September 27th every year since 1980. It is held on this date because it marks one of the most important milestones in the tourist industry- the adoption of the World Tourism Organization (WTO) Statutes, on this very day in 1970.

Destination: South Lake Tahoe

La Tomatina
Every year, on the last Wednesday of August, the tiny Spanish village of Bunyol, near Valencia, hosts possibly the world’s largest tomato fight. From 11am, the village becomes a battle zone as inhabitants and visitors alike squash their tomatoes and throw them at each other in quick succession. The event is said to be a tradition that was started when, back in 1945, some locals started a food fight that got slightly out of hand…and the rest is now history!

Colombia To Patagonia: 9,000 Kilometers Of Wisdom

Editor’s Note: Alvaro Galvis is a 26 year old carpenter in the midst of a long-distance bike trip from his hometown of Popayan, in the far south of Colombia, to southern Argentina.
I met Alvaro in a campground in the mountains near El Bolson, Patagonia, and was instantly struck by his aura of calm, even though he is alone, with very little money, 9,000 kilometers from home.
